“Drew Landry doesn’t often brag about how Kris Kristofferson called him the best songwriter he’s heard in 30 years. Landry impressed the legend by playing him his song “Last Man Standing.”
– Nick Pittman, Offbeat Magazine
Landry landed his first gig as a roadie on a Scott Biram/Hank III tour more than two decades ago and has shared the stage with Billy Joe Shaver, The Angola State Prison Band, Lazy Lester, David Allen Coe, Charlie Louvin, Dwight Yoakam, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Doug Kershaw, Johnny Winter, and countless others.
His first album, Keep What’s Left, was called “The Equivalent to Lomax’s field recordings for the 21st Century.” The sophomore effort earned him a feature on Live Nation’s “Ones to Watch” and according to countrychart.com, his third album, Share-Cropper’s Whine is a “five star, Cajun-influenced Americana masterwork.” Landry’s philanthropic work for the BP spill earned him a spot on the Warner Brothers label and the honor of recording with the late great Dr. John in 2010.
Landry met Sarah Calhoun at SXSW who booked him as Red Ants Pants Music Festival main stage artist in 2013, but a head-on collision with an 18 wheeler nearly stopped him from performing again. His road to recovery brought him back to Montana where he serves the Blackfeet Nation through the USDA as an Extension agent.
The songwriter is also the acting director of MMIPMT.com. This reporting portal and database helps families from Tribal Nations in Montana report missing loved ones. Drew tells us he’s, “really excited about getting back to White Sulphur to play for such an important cause.” Please visit the MMIP Montana booth to inquire about how you can help families from Tribal Nations address the Missing & Murdered Crisis.
